Rewards

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. II Corinthians 5:10

The word “we” occurs repeatedly in this fifth chapter, and each time it refers to the Christian. In verse ten, it is speaking of our standing before Christ, the judge of the living and dead, John 5:22, where the works of our lives will pass in review. I Corinthians 3:11-15 teaches that some works, when tried by fire, will stand and thus receive a reward, others will be burned up, and the believer will suffer loss, not of salvation, but of rewards. This judgment is of works only. Our sin was judged on the cross at Calvary. Our salvation is secure in that but the review of verse 10 here should serve as the impetus for our living holy and service to Christ as we serve others. Every work will receive its just recompense of reward.
